PROJECT TEN

Facilitating meaningful volunteering and learning opportunities for young Jews from across the globe at program centers in underserved communities worldwide

A leading provider of sustainable-development volunteer programs in a Jewish framework, The Jewish Agency’s Project TEN program brings Israelis and Jewish young adults from around the globe together to live and work in Israel and developing regions worldwide. Volunteers explore Jewish culture and values while performing acts of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), working alongside locals to ethically boost the social resilience of the community.

Project TEN has nine centers: two in Israel plus centers in Argentina, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mexico, South Africa and Uganda. And in 2022, Project TEN began celebrating its 10-year anniversary.

Since it was founded, Project TEN has facilitated life-changing volunteer experiences for 5,000+ young Jews from 14 countries, who made a difference in the lives of 30,000 local community members.

Abby, a junior at Georgia College, took part in a special subsidized trip to The Jewish Agency’s Project TEN Center in Mexico in June 2022. The seven-day trip was organized by Hillels of Georgia and sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta.

“Every day was different and jam-packed but so meaningful. It was amazing to meet and work with other Jews from around the world and share our different opinions on Judaism and Jewish identity,” Abby said. “It was really a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Other participants from around the world, including Ruth, 30, from Casablanca, Morocco, and Rebecca, 27, from Paris, France, volunteered at the TEN center at the same time as the Atlanta delegation.

“I was really amazed at how the Atlanta volunteers had such strong Jewish values. I’d met Americans before but it was very interesting to more deeply discuss each others’ practices and beliefs… It was truly beautiful how we all wanted to help and do Tikkun Olam,” Ruth recounted.

“It was really special to be at Project TEN with the Atlanta delegation because even though we are from different countries, we had a connection because we all are Jewish,” added Rebecca. “Programs like Project TEN are so important because they allow us to make a difference and grow Jewishly.”

In total, 410 Jewish young adults participated in Project TEN volunteer cohorts in 2022.

Sylvia, 23, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, volunteered at the TEN center adjacent to Kibbutz Harduf in the lower Galilee in Israel. Her five-month volunteering experience was so impactful that when it was over, she returned to the States and began interning for the organization.

“There’s nothing else like Project TEN; it’s uniquely special and offers so much to those who participate,” Sylvia shared. “It gives people a greater global perspective and helps direct people toward their greater purpose in life.”
