Leveling the Playing Field

October 22, 2008 / 23 Tishrei 5769

The sports field has become an integral component of the social integration program at the Jewish Agency’s Tzahal 9 Absorption Center in Safed. It adds new meaning to the phrase “leveling the playing field” – as it is the one place where new immigrants have equal standing with resident Israelis.

This week the Jewish Agency’s Tzahal 9 Absorption Center children enjoyed a friendly soccer match against children from the local community center. Chagai Maman coached the absorption center children, while the community center children were under the baton of Asher Suissa.

Parents as well as guests attended the games. In the course of the game and upon its conclusion the boys bonded together and arranged to meet off the field as well. More games as well as other sports models are planned in other absorption centers as well.
