The goal of the Absorption Center is to help integrate and prepare olim for independent living within Israeli society.
Background
The Orly absorption center is located on the border of the Negev and Judean deserts near the Dead Sea, in the quiet town of Arad in southern Israel. Arad is home to 30,000 residents and is known for its clean, dry air and exceptional health benefits. The Orly Arad absorption center can be found at the city’s entrance, within walking distance to educational institutions, kindergartens, shopping centers, various public institutions and the local market.
Accommodations
The Orly Arad absorption center includes 31 spacious residential units. The size of the apartments, quiet roads and relaxed atmosphere make it ideal for large families. The apartments have basic appliances and furnishings including beds, closets, refrigerator, stove, a table and chairs.
The center makes every effort to ensure personal attention and a warm family atmosphere. Upon arrival, families are welcomed with food provisions for their first days.
Activities and Special Projects
The center provides activities for both adults and children. For adults this includes Hebrew studies, conversion classes, seminars, community activities, workshops on parenting, employment, consumerism and trips around Israel.
Activities for children focus on educational reinforcement and enrichment in subjects such as Jewish customs, festivals and Israeli culture. In addition, they also have sports, drama, music, day camps, trips and more.
Activities are geared towards the different stages of absorption and assisting olim in becoming familiar with their new surroundings.

Special projects unique to Orly residents include:
Community and Volunteering Activities - Combined activities with local residents in preparation for and during holidays, afternoon volunteer programs and homework assistance, the establishment of a Youth to Youth Movement branch in the absorption center and afternoon activities for elementary school students, with soldier teachers at the Arad community center.
Adopting Communities - A group of local residents, together with Telma Industries, have adopted the absorption center and organizes joint trips and celebrations for holidays and events.
Bar Mitzvah - Bar Mitzvah preparation classes are held in the center and funds are raised to assist with celebration costs.
Staff
A professional and dedicated staff is responsible for the care of the new immigrants and for the daily running of the absorption center. The staff consists of a director, social worker, housemother, education, social and cultural coordinator and administrative assistant, and a support team of two counselors, two tutors and a mentor.
