Jewish Agency Chanukah Youth  Activities For Fire Victims

December 5, 2010 /  28 Kislev 5771

Hundreds of children from communities in the North who were evacuated from their homes because of the fire on the Carmel range, will enjoy their Chanukah vacation from today in the framework of organized educational activity run by the Jewish Agency, far away from the flames.  A special fundraising campaign launched by the Jewish Agency and Jewish Communities worldwide this weekend in response to the fire continues.  Chairman of the Jewish Agency Natan Sharansky noted that Jews from all over the world are expressing their solidarity with the State of Israel and its citizens at this time.

The initiative of the Jewish Agency on behalf of children of the North will include organized educational activities for children which will take place in localities which are safe and distant from the fire, and will include outings and performances in the center of the country.  The activities are being run in coordination with the relevant government authorities and in cooperation with the Migdal Or(Lighthouse) Association and the Noar Ha`oved ve Halomed youth movement.(Israel`s equivalent of the Habonim Youth Movement)

Chairman of the Jewish Agency Natan Sharansky said that since the fire broke out Thursday, representatives of Jewish Communities around the world have been calling, offering assistance, and expressing their condolences to the stricken families and good wishes to the security and rescue services.  “The unity of the Jewish People and the solidarity of Jewish communities with the State of Israel are expressed at such times”, said Sharansky and thanked the Jewish Communities for their solidarity and willingness to assist.

Following the huge fire on the Carmel, JAFI and Jewish communities launched this weekend a fundraising campaign aimed at meeting various needs, in coordination with the responsible state authorities.

If you are capable of helping the evacuees and victims, please open your hearts and give what you can for this cause through the Jewish Agency today.
