Students From Kiryat Gat, Lachish, and Shafir Awarded Scholarships
One hundred students from Kiryat Gat, as well as from the Lachish and the Shafir Regions, have recently been awarded educational scholarships to institutions of higher education. The scholarships were given at the completion of 100 hours of volunteer work in the community, as part of the Jewish Agency-United Jewish Communities Partnership 2000 program, which links regions in Israel with Jewish communities abroad. Funding is provided by the local councils and by the Chicago Federation, which is a partner in the project.
Also participating in the ceremony were the heads of the local councils and directors of the education divisions, as well as Jewish Agency representatives. The scholarships are given to students registered at schools accredited by the Council for Higher Education, in accordance with need. The annual scholarship is worth around $1,000.
