Ms. Dorothy Wizer (JFNA/UIA)

Committee Member

Dorothy was born and raised in Richmond, VA, is now a permanent resident of Boca Raton, FL. Her involvement in the Jewish Community has been a lifelong experience.  Dorothy attended the first United Synagogue Youth Convention, and in 1950 co-founded the USY chapter at Temple Beth-El, Richmond VA.

 

Over the years, Dorothy has severed on the boards of Richmond JCC, Beth Shalom Home for the Aged; Community Liaison to Jewish Family Services, and co-chaired Richmond Federation Annual Campaign,  Richmond Exodus Campaign, and Operation Moses. She is a past president of the Richmond Jewish Community Federation. Dorothy served as a Committee Member of the National Conference on Soviet Jewry, and on the AMITIM Steering Committee (later a JAFI program) and has participated in and or has lead missions to the Former Soviet Union, Prague, Cuba, Poland, Ethiopia, and Israel.

 

South Palm Beach County Federation participation has included: Chair of the Lion of Judah Annual Luncheon, Education Day, and Boca Pointe Community Campaign and on the Women’s Philanthropy Board; JFSPBC Board and Executive Committee, Israel Overseas Committee, and the Women’s Foundation Board. A graduate of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School Program, she is co-founder and board member FMAMS International alumni association, and the SPBC alumni association.

 

Her professional career included: Director, Elementary Division, Richmond JCC:  Special Projects Director, Virginia Commission for the Arts and Humanities; Director, Volunteer Services, Henrico Virginia Juvenile Court System; Consultant to Government and not-for-profits on development of volunteer services.

She has also served as a board member of the National Volunteers in Criminal Justice and on the Virginia Commonwealth University Advisory Board.

 

Honors received include: Kipnes-Wilson-Friedland Lion of Judah award: Henrico Virginia Bar Association, Liberty Bell award. Community Service award, Virginia Juvenile Officers Association. Certificate of recognition, Virginia Governor John Dolton.

 

She is a Committee member as of June 2010.
