Abraham J Gafni has been a Professor of Law at Villanova University School of Law, since 1994, after retiring as a judge in Philadelphia, PA, having served on the bench for 18 years. Since 1994, he has concentrated on the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution and has lectured on this subject extensively including presentations in Israel at both Haifa and Tel Aviv Schools of Law as well as before the judges of the Israel Labor Courts and other government agencies.
In Philadelphia he currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Federation and is on the Israel Committee (which he also chaired in the past). He has served on other committees of the Federation, the Jewish Community Relations Council, and the Board of Jewish Education and as President of the Germantown Jewish Centre.
He began serving on numerous committees of JAFI from 1987-2000, including several years as the chair of the subcommittee on allocations of the Budget and Finance Committee. He withdrew from JAFI committee work by reason of his appointment as President of the Arbitration Tribunal of the International Commission on Holocaust Era Insurance Claims from 2000-2007 ( when the Commission ended its work). He has, however, continued as Chair of the Resolutions Committee of the JAFI Assembly since 1993.
He is a Committee Member since June 2010.
